Special characteristics of Finnish freshwaters and their sustainable use
Description
This course focuses on freshwater ontogeny, geographical distribution, catchment connections, aquatic biodiversity, water resources, ecosystem services, environmental problems, conservation, monitoring, management and basics of related legislation.
Learning outcomes
Student understands the interconnections between freshwaters and their catchments, geographical distribution and special characteristics and their value for biodiversity and human actions. Student knows principles of sustainable use of water resources, significance of freshwaters in providing ecosystem services, water legislation, water pollution and conservation and water quality assessments and management.
