Description

The course content consists of three parts: In the first part, student learns about the global environmental challenges, principles of sustainability, as well as on the concept of circular economy. In the second part, student learns about leadership of change and societal transitions. In the third part, student reflects his/her personal growth and learns about the education and competences of sustainability, as well as different thinking tools and methods for the practice of sustainability.

Leadership for sustainable change is an online course on sustainability and change leadership. Student studies the online learning material, including text, video and assignments, at the MOOC platform. In an online study group, student makes a project work, in which a sustainability change project plan is designed.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • understand what are the great sustainability challenges and how are they related
  • lead a change in a complex system, for example by utilizing circular economy
  • identify what skills, knowledge and attitudes does a professional change-maker need
  • prepare and collaborate on a concrete sustainability project plan

We'll have a joint virtual starting session on Tuesday 18 January 2022 4-6 p.m. (EET, UTC+2) when the course starts. Two other sessions are 8 Feb and 1 March, also 4-6 p.m.

The course is organized in collaboration with the University of Helsinki, Hanken School of Economics, the Tampere University, the University of Jyväskylä and the Open University of Helsinki.

Evaluation criteria:
Individual assignments: multiple choice assignments and a written assignment. The students need to complete a multiple choice assignment and write an opinion piece (500 words) designed for a newspaper on a chosen topic
