The content and learning outcomes of the course are based on an understanding of
-climate change as a scientific phenomenon,
-how it can be prevented (mitigation),
-and how adaptation to it is possible.
In addition to discussing the scientific basis, the objectives of the course also include discussing the theme of climate change:
-as a global human challenge
-as an ethical challenge to our understanding of human life
-as a challenge related to the students’ fields of study
-as a challenge regarding the students’ personal roles as influencers
Connection of Course Contents to UN Sustainable Development Goals:
This course supports specifically UN Sustainable Development Goal 13 Climate Action by providing a multidisciplinary perspective on climate change and encourages effective climate action in the students’ fields of study and in their personal roles as influencers. In addition, the course provides the students with the background necessary to understand the climate impacts and economic requirements of different means of energy production, thus connecting with the Goal 7 Affordable and clean energy. During the course, students plan a climate related project aimed at improving the sustainability of a community of their choice supporting the Goal 11 Sustainable cities and communities.
