Description
Most common causes of environmental contamination. Laws and regulations. Remediation of contaminated soil, groundwater and sediments. Characterization of contaminated sites. Risk-based remediation of contaminated sites. Physical, chemical and biological remediation techniques, natural remediation.
Learning outcomes
After the course the student:
- knows the contamination of soil, sediments and groundwater by metals, inorganic and organic chemicals.
- is able to characterize the type of contamination and carry out a selection of remediation goals by risk based approach.
- is familiar with the legislation such as permitting process and guideline values for remediation .
- knows the most common biological, chemical and physical remediation techniques.
