Description
The course focuses on the basic principles of historical research sources and source criticism.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will:
- have an understanding of the key source materials for historical research
- understand the potential uses and research value of variety of sources
- have practised using a variety of sources
- be confident using the basic principles of source criticism and its applications to a variety of sources
- be able to read old handwriting and interpret texts written in the “old German” handwriting style (Sütterlin)
- have developed problem-solving and information retrieval skills, and their ability to produce academic texts
- have an understanding of the basic principles of source critical analysis
- have honed their teamwork and project skills.
Additional information
It is recommended that history degree students complete all assessment items on this course by participating in teaching. Students on other degree programmes complete 1 cr (palaeography) of the assessment online, and 4 cr in the classroom.
