KEMA282 Organic Chemistry 1 (5 cr)
Description
Content
Basics of the organic analytics: NMR and IR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Radical reactions (halogenation, allylic and benzylic halogenation, radical addition), substitution reactions (SN1 and SN2 reactions), elimination reactions (E1 and E2). The reactions of aromatic compounds electrophilic aromatic substitution, nucleophilic aromatic substitution, and reactions of aromatic amines. The substituent effects of benzene: reactivity, impact to acidity and basicity.
Completion methods
Exam and exercises or only the exam.
Assessment details
Grading is based on exercise activity (20%) and exam (80%). If only exam is taken, the exercise points can be replaced by an extra problem.
Grade 1: Student knows the basic principles of analytical methods and reactions.
Grade 2: Student knows the basic principles of analytical methods and reactions and their theory and is able to apply the basic analytical methods and reactions to simple examples.
Grade 3: Student knows the basic principles of analytical methods and reactions, concepts and theory and is able to apply them in typical examples.
Grade 4: Student understands the concepts, methods and theory and is able to apply them in typical examples..
Grade 5: Student understands deeply the concepts, methods and theory and is able to successfully apply them in complicated examples.
