Cultures, Communities and Change. Bachelor's Degree Programme in Ethnology, Anthropology and Cultural Policy
Description
The KUMU bachelor’s degree programme provides wide-ranging knowledge about culture and society, ethnology, anthropology and cultural policy. Studies focus on key methods, theories, concepts, information forming processes, research ethics and research methods in the field. At bachelor’s level, teaching is organised and implemented with the student’s future knowledge and skills in mind, and all forms of learning aim to take into account the cultural field as a whole, as a future employer and as an area of competence. After completing a bachelor’s degree, students are able to apply the knowledge gained critically, reflectively and ethically. The degree helps students find creative solutions to complex or unpredictable problems.
While studying for the bachelor’s degree students are introduced to and make contacts in their own field, and practise important work skills. Students also form a clear picture of the structures of the job market. Students understand what kind of expertise and practical skills are needed in intercultural environments and for working in culture and the arts. The student is able to communicate in various professional roles and practise reflecting on their own competence. Bachelor’s students are supported in their career planning. Portfolio tools help students learn to understand and present the development of their personal skills, employability and international experience.
The study timetables, scope and completion methods have been created to support smooth progress and accessibility. A bachelor’s degree prepares students to start studying for a master’s degree in their third or fourth year of study.
