Advancing knowledge and understanding of theories of media and journalism research.
Completion methods
The course is conducted as a distance exam. The exam can be taken anywhere with a network connection and a computer. Exam questions are essay-type and more of an applied nature, as students have access to the literature during the exam. To enroll for the exam students must contact Professor Mikko Villi by email (mikko.villi@jyu.fi). A suitable exam date can be suggested. Professor Villi must be contacted at least two weeks before the desired date.
Assessment details
Passing the course requires completion of the exam in line with stated learning outcomes. Grade-specific assessment criteria are introduced in the learning environment.

The student
- increases their command of aspects of contemporary media culture that are specific to journalism
- understands the significance of theoretical knowledge as the basis of journalistic and media-related expertise
